At higher boost levels, anything you can do to cool things down helps. It will be particularly usefull if you autox or road race as heat has time to build up in these sports.
It's not an easy mod. I have all the parts and know pretty much what I'm going to do, but I'm not looking forward to this project.
I'm going to remove the AC condensor, compressor and lines to free up room for the cooler and relocated filter. As a bonus, this will increase air flow and chop 100 pounds off the car.
You could leave the AC, but you'll have a harder install.

thanks for some insight,
I don't auto-x
However, I guess, if it's somewhat difficult with minor gains, I'll save it for one of the last things to consider doing in the future.

I didn't specify, but I'm changing to a 160 degree water thermostat and will be using a 180 degree thermostatic control valve to bypass the oil cooler under 180 degrees.
I would not install an oil cooler without the control valve. The engine will run too cool.
I have all the part numbers and sources for this stuff in case anyone wants help.

I am in the process of putting togther a custom turbo kit, and personally will not install without an oil cooler. It is nice because your engine/oil run cooler, leading to longer life, less chance of detonation, and more power (I am not saying the power gain is very much, or that you will feel it, but cooler = more power).
I am pretty much going with the setup Holden described, except I am going to use a thermostat in the system.
